On February 24, 2022, Russian Federation invaded the country of Ukraine for no reason. Russian president Vladimir Putin who wanted to brin USSR back from the ashes called it “special operation”. My beautiful home city of Sumy which lays only about 30 miles from the Russian border was attacked on the first day of this awful war. The city of Sumy is surrounded by Russian military and blocked from all the necessary supplies. Many have been evacuated. These who stay experience shooting, bombing, shelling, witness the death of civilians, children, babies, pregnant women, destroyed homes and property. Russians are acting like terrorists – looting, stilling, and killing. But all these terrible things didn’t break Ukrainian spirit.
The church of Rozdestvo is staying in Sumy and doing all they can to help their neighbors – they volunteer, provide food and other necessities to their community. Pastor Vadim Lysenko is helping other church members with physical and spiritual needs. They are praying every two hours and trying to bring to their neighbors the Good News of God in this time of trouble.
