My name is Olga York. I am a Christian and a Ukrainian-born American. My husband, Dale York, is an American with a heart for the Ukrainian people. Together we direct “Jesus in Ukraine” as a gateway between our brothers and sisters in Christ and The Church of Rozdestvo (Christ’s Birth) in Sumy Ukraine. This is our way of serving in the name of Christ.
History of the church of Rozdestvo
In November of 1997 Baptist church of Grace in Sumy Ukraine received the missionary team of about 10 people from USA. American evangelists were eager and enthusiastic. They want on the streets of Sumy, public transportations, and people’s home with the message of Gospel, inviting these who wanted to know more to come to the meeting. They rented a hall in the city and held several services with all who attended. The youth of the Grace church lad by youth pastor Vadim Lysenko was helping the American missionaries. When Americans left, there was a group of about 30 people who wanted to continue meeting together. At Christmas time this group held big celebration of Christ birth. The decorations, the singing and the atmosphere of joy was unforgettable. More people came to Christ on that day. And that’s how the Church of Rozdestvo (Christ birth) was born. They went through some difficult times and developed into a big congregation of about 400 Christians who serve the Lord in many different ministries. The church of Rozdestvo now known and respected by many other Christians, city authorities, and many officials because of their service to God and to people in the community.
